RIVERSIDE EXPERIENCES RECORD FLOODING!

Sunday morning, June 8, set new records for water levels at camp. The morning started out normal enough with the river being high, but contained within it's banks. Things changed quickly by 10:00 as the 6 to 8 inch rains to the north all funneled down the South Skunk River and started covering Riverside. The water exceeded the flood levels of 1993 and 1996 by noon.

The Story City volunteer fire department came and helped get the Little Flock Day Care surrounded with plastic and a layer of sand bags before getting called into Story City to protect the city's water treatment plant. Their help was enough to allow our staff to finish the sand bags and protect Little Flock from any water damage.

Unfortunately, there was nothing to do to protect the chapel, lower cabins and the old rec hall. We got most of the supplies, furniture and other equipment up to keep from any damage.

The pool had muddy water running through it. The ranch had water covering all of the pastures and corrals and strong currents flowing through areas we never would have thought could have been under water. We lost several large hay bales and have the horses confined to a small hillside pasture.

Clean up has already begun with counselors who were not able to go back home. Day care opens again on Tuesday and our day camp teams were able to go as scheduled.

What we need? Lots of prayer! Hay for the horses. Our clean up effort will continue throughout the next week. If you care to volunteer, contact the office with your availability and we will let you know if we can use your help. We have had a tremendous numbers of offers already and we greatly appreciate it.

As of noon on Monday we are still in flood stage. The pool, chapel and day care are being cleaned. The cabins will be cleaned as soon as the water subsides.

We were forced to cancel camp for this week. We plan to operate our camps as planned beginning June 15, next Sunday. We have added spaces at ranch camps and we have scheduled an additional week of CCC to try to make room for everyone from this week to be able to come to camp this summer. Most of the families have been able shift to another week. We are so grateful for their flexibility and cooperation.

WE SURVIVED!

The rains have finally stopped! The chapel is cleaned. The pool will be ready for swimmers early next week (June 15.) We are so excited to finally be able to start camp. We can't wait for the campers to come pouring in to learn more about "Kingdom Come!"
