What a great week of Family Camp! We had a record number of families.
Each morning all 27 families gathered in the chapel for singing, skits and sharing of God’s Word. Following chapel time, all 70 children were divided according to age groups and spent the morning with our amazing counselors and experienced a time of learning more about Jesus and experienced some really fun activities!
The adults enjoyed being taught by Enrique (Q.) and Martha Ochoa from Cedar Falls, Iowa. Great discussions took place each morning.
Many activities were offered during Free Time each afternoon. Families enjoyed swimming, Rec Hall fun—carpetball, foosball, Camp Store, Art Fun, and Family Bonding time! Families went horseback riding and canoed the South Skunk River from Riverside to Story City. Evenings were filled with many great family activities, including campfires and the Mime.
Families enjoyed Riverside’s FAMOUS July 4th parade which included many staff members dressed in crazy costumes (throwing candy) and some decorated camp vehicles. Sheltered Reality, an awesome drumline, the Story City Fire Dept., and an EMT Rescue Unit joined the parade with a lot of pizzazz! You just never know what’s going to happen at camp!! Our director, Dave, with some volunteer help, grilled hamburgers and hot dogs for everyone. Sheltered Reality played more during supper, inviting adults and children to join in the drumming.
Family Camp 2014 will be July 1—4. Pastor Scott Rains from Lutheran Church of Hope, Ankeny will be our speaker. We look forward to having him and his awesome family at Riverside.
