This year will be the Fifth Annual Riverside 5K Run/Walk. Come support the ministry of Riverside, enjoy the beautiful scenery, and enjoy some great fellowship with other Riversidians! All of the registration fee goes directly towards supporting camperships for youth who want to come to Riverside, thanks to our wonderful sponsors. Check in and registration will be from 7:30 am - 8:15 am on August 5, with the race starting at 8:30 am. There will be a free children's fun run for all youth 10 and under following the 5k, as well as bagels, fruit, snacks, sports drinks, water, and an award ceremony for all of the 5k participants to enjoy. Then stick around for a dip in the brand new Riverside pool! Shower off in the new pool house bathrooms, and stick around for worship, lunch, and the quilt auction if you would like as well. We look forward to seeing you for all of the fun!

The 4th Annual Riverside 5K Run/Walk was a huge success! Thanks to everyone who helped make this event possible, especially to all of you runners and walkers out there who had a great time. The cool, crisp morning with sunny skies made for great weather on a fine August morning. 131 runners/walkers toed the line and then went all across the beautiful roads and trails on the grounds of Riverside for some great exercise, fun competition, and good conversations. (At least the walkers were able to enjoy visiting with each other during the race.)
For the first time, we added a fun team element to the 5K, where churches who support Riverside had the opportunity to compete for the inaugural Church's Cup! The first ever winners were Lutheran Church of Hope - Des Moines, with their runners of Jack Johnson, Paxton Bennett, and Jamie Johnson. Coming in 2nd place was Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City, with their team of Kyle, Staci, Makenna, and Faith Springer. They got 2nd place over the 3rd place team of Harvest Vineyard Church of Ames by the narrowest of margins, 1 point. It was great to have so many churches support this race, as well as some great individuals. The overall winner for the race was Jack Johnson, who ran a blistering time of 17:24, and Brett Meier came in 2nd place with a time of 18:03. On the women's side, Staci Springer took home 1st place with a time of 21:00, and Andrea Moeller came in 2nd with a time of 21:25. Congratulations to all of these runners for having a great race!
Following the full 5K, kids participated in a fun run around main camp, healthy refreshments and drinks were had, awards and the cup were handed out, and then runners and their families enjoyed swimming and relaxing in the brand new Riverside pool. It was a great morning that saw $5675 raised in support of the full day of Quilt Auction fun, which goes towards camperships for kids who need financial assistance in order to attend camp. Thanks again to everyone who participated or volunteered, and we look forward to seeing even more people at Riverside next year for this great day!
