Riverside Yoco Retreat

Saturday, December 18-19

We are pumped to welcome young adults and college-aged students to our second annual YoCo Retreat at Riverside! We are inviting any college students, current seniors in High School, or young adults to come worship, hear from a couple of speakers, eat great food, and hear from God on Saturday, December 18 at lunchtime through breakfast on Sunday.

Who is this for?

This is perfect for college students who need a day to connect with God, past summer staff, college-aged young adults who are working, or young adults recently out of college who are itching for some rest during a busy time. We are also hoping to have a lot of our college freshmen who didn't get to have their last high school week at Riverside this past summer. That's part of the reason we invited Julie Van Hove (scheduled 2021 high school week speaker) to speak at the retreat. We want the class of 2021 to have another camp experience at Riverside. Regardless of where you find yourself currently, we believe God has something for you!

What will the schedule be like?

Check in will be from 11:30-12 on Saturday, we will begin with a meal together as we head into the day. Throughout the day we will worship together, hang out, play, eat dinner, worship some more, and have some free time before retreating to cabins for the evening. We will end the day Sunday with a continental breakfast and a worship service. We can't wait to host this event again.

Meet Our Speakers

Julie Van Hove - Julie loves Riverside! Her life was deeply impacted by camp, and she has been connected with Riverside for the last couple of decades in various capacities. Julie lives in Story City with her hubs of 20 years & their three kiddos. She works at Harvest Vineyard Church and is the Co-Founder of Defined Ministries. She has a passion for people to know and walk in their identity in Christ. Julie was supposed to be our high school week speaker in 2020, and we look forward to having her speak at our YoCo Retreat and high school week in 2021!

Danny Housholder - Danny lives to share the love of Jesus with a smile and high energy. Lead pastor at Lutheran Church of Hope – Ames, Danny gets to serve children, youth, college students and adults every day. Danny oversees Kairos, a college ministry at Iowa State that continues to expand, including Iowa City and Des Moines. Danny and his wife Abby live in Ames, and together they enjoy living life to the full. Danny loves camping ministry, and he was the high school week speaker at Riverside in 2018 & 2019. We are pumped to have Danny back at Riverside!

Julie and Danny are both incredible people who know how to listen to God and share the love of Jesus with others. You will absolutely LOVE getting to listen to these two servants of God, as they encourage us during this retreat.

Safety protocols in light of COVID-19

We hope the following information on what we will be doing at Riverside in light of COVID-19 will help you make a decision that is best for you as to whether or not you would like to attend the YoCo Retreat, and we hope that this will allow people of all comfort levels to attend this retreat.

  1. Limiting Capacity - We will be limiting the amount of participants that can come to the retreat, in order to have plenty of space to social distance during worship and at meal times.

  2. Masks - We require that everyone wear a mask whenever you are indoors or within 6 feet of others outdoors. The only time you will not wear a mask would be while eating.

  3. Social Distancing - We will have tables for meals that allow for plenty of room between you and others who are not already in your bubble of contacts. We will also have chairs set up in the chapel with 6 feet of space between different groups of chairs.

  4. Health Screen - We will do a brief health screening for everyone upon arrival at Riverside. We ask that you stay home if you have been sick, have COVID-19 symptoms, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 within two weeks of you arriving at Riverside.

  5. Meals - We expect everyone to wash their hands before meal times, and we will not be having a self-serving buffet. If you do not want to eat close by to any others, we will have tables available with six feet of distance between you and anyone else who would be eating with you.

  6. Overnight Lodging - If you wish to stay overnight on Thursday, Dec. 10, then we will have you in a cabin with others. We will do our best to put you in a cabin with other people from your school or area. You can also let us know on the sign-up form if you have any roommate requests. If you don't feel comfortable staying overnight, then you can come for Friday only!

If you have any questions about the retreat, COVID precautions, or anything else as it pertains to the YoCo Retreat, please contact Lute Olson at Lute@RiversideLBC.org or 515-733-5271.
