Fall Recharges

What's a Recharge?

recharge - (n): The process of reloading or refueling a power source with it's proper fuel; ie: your fuel tank, your batteries, your mind, your heart.

A Recharge is a super fun weekend event at Riverside during the fall that is like a whole week of camp smashed into 40 hours! You’ll have a ton of fun! There will be worship, wonderful friends, great food, games, activities, free time, small groups, carpetball, awesome cabin leaders, fabulous skits, and a “no homework guarantee”!! Check-in is from 7:30-8:20 pm on Friday night with a brief health screening for your camper and pick-up is at noon on Sunday (pickup at cabins). See all of the details below!

It's going to be a ton of fun!

DID YOU TRANSFER YOUR SUMMER 2020 CAMP FEES?

If you chose to have Riverside hold your registration fees paid toward your canceled Summer 2020 camp session, these funds are available for you to use for Recharge, as well as for Summer 2021! These funds appear on your Online Registration Dashboard under Financial. When you click on "Make Payment" a popup screen will display the available funds in the form of a Payment Voucher - simply click on "Use Payment Voucher".  This will allow you to apply any transferred funds to current registration costs for any/all campers in your family. You get to determine how much of the Payment Voucher you want to apply to your camper/s and session/s. If you have any issues, please contact our office at 515-733-5271.

COVID-19 Considerations

We hope the following information on what we will be doing at Riverside in light of COVID-19 will help you and your family make a decision that is best for you as to whether or not you will send a camper to Riverside this fall. If you have any additional questions, feel free to call the office at 515-733-5271. Here are some of the things that will look a little different than normal at Riverside...

  1. Limiting capacity - We will be limiting the number of campers that can come to each recharge, in order to allow for plenty of space for social distancing between cabins for worship, meals, and any other indoor activities. Our normal capacity for fall recharges is around 200 campers, and we will be operating at 50% or less than our normal capacity.

  2. Strongly encouraging youth to come as a part of a small group from their own town/church who they are already interacting with, including two adult leaders - We are asking you to strongly consider having your small group, friends, etc. come together as a group to Riverside. You can have 4-10 campers in a cabin, and you would need to have two adult "cabin leaders" with them. (These can be parents, small group leaders, etc. One leader would need to be out of high school, but the other could be a high school student.) Typically we encourage campers to branch out and meet new people at camp, but due to the pandemic, we are encouraging campers to sign-up with people they are already in regular contact with. When campers register online, you will be able to add up to 9 or so cabin mate requests, rather than the typical 2. The adult volunteers would need to have a background check and communicate with us at RLBC@RiversideLBC.org about who will be in their group. The adult leaders would not have to register for the recharge, as they would get to participate for free. They would use the materials and curriculum that we provide to lead their small group through the weekend. It will be a fun and easy weekend connecting and investing in some fantastic youth. We think this is an AWESOME way to have a shared, Christ-centered experience with a group that you may already be investing in!

  3. Cabin mates based on geography - Campers who are unable to come as a part of an entire cabin group will be put in a cabin with other campers based on where they are from. We will do our best to put campers in a cabin with other campers from their same geographic location, and they will have plenty of distance between campers who are in different cabins.

  4. Social distancing - Each cabin will remain a cohort throughout the weekend, and there will be plenty of space between cabin groups during the day, including chapel time, meals, and other activities, whether they be indoors or outdoors. Our goal is to minimize close contact between different cabin groups.

  5. Health Screen - We will do a brief health screening for every camper upon arrival at Riverside, including a temperature check. Any camper with a temperature above 100.4 will have to return home. We ask that you stay home if you have been sick, have COVID-19 symptoms, or have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 within the week before coming to a recharge.

  6.  Meal times - All campers will be expected to wash their hands before every meal, and instead of having a self-serving buffet, we will be serving meals family style! You will still enjoy the incredible food that you are used to eating at Riverside, but now you will have it brought to your table for you. We also will not have any campers on dish crew.

  7. Masks - We will be giving a mask to every camper who comes to a recharge this fall, but it would be helpful for your camper to bring at least two others from home! Campers are expected to wear their masks while they are in any building or within six feet of someone who is not in their cabin group, except for when they are in their own cabin, eating, or instructed otherwise. Masks are optional for campers when they are in their cabin, outdoors and not within six feet of campers who are not in their cabin group, eating, in Bible study, or otherwise instructed that masks are optional.

If you have any additional questions, feel free to email us at RLBC@RiversideLBC.org or call us at 515-733-5271.
