We got iced out of our originally-scheduled Mother/Son Pizza & Game Night but that didn't stop us from doubling to fun on the following weekend! This annual event took place on Saturday, February 6, 2021 - it was originally scheduled as an evening-only event. When we had to cancel our original date because of bad winter weather, we decided to open up the next weekend by having both a midday and an evening event. Almost all of our registered attendees were still able to come and it also opened up the opportunity for more moms and sons to get registered and participate!
This year, each event was limited to a smaller number of participants, all of whom had to register ahead of time. While in the past we've offered walk-in registrations, in order to prepare for the safest event possible, it was determined that getting registered ahead of time so that our team could prepare accordingly seemed most wise.
Our team had a joyful time hosting this year's gathering of moms and their sons. To maximize safe physical distancing and to minimize group sizes, we divided our moms and sons into assigned groups. Half enjoyed the terrific pizza supper and specially-baked camouflage cookies while the other group competed in a carpetball tournament. After an hour of fierce carpetball competition and full-bellies, our groups divided again into four stations.
Nerf-gun target practice seemed to be the most popular stop along the way. However, many moms and boys took their turn at our whipped-cream challenge. This provided for a multitude of laughs and messy faces as we used our mouths as the target to flip the whipped cream off of our wrists. Most families were able to spend some time creating a birdseed pinecone feeder to take home, while others enjoyed coloring and chatting at their table.
It was an absolute pleasure to be able to proceed with our first event of the new year! So many terrific photos were captured (see link above) and memories made. What a delight to even set aside time for moms to pray with their sons before departing. We are so grateful for all of the families that dedicated a part of their Saturday to be at Riverside celebrating the special bond between moms and their sons.
